Hi Everyone, Looking for help,info.

Lot's of smart people here,need some info. I have 2 Gold Eagles with roman numerials, and would like to know the dates of them. one has MCMXC, and the other MCMLXXXVI. Thanks for a great informitive site.:coolbeer:

Re: Hi Everyone, Looking for help,info.

1990 1986 I believe

M = 1000
C = 100
L = 50
X = 10
I = 1

If a smaller roman numeral is before a larger one it is subtracted from the bigger one. If a smaller roman numeral is after the larger one it is added.

Don't worry about it. Canadian is a GIM genious, and it would be beneath him to answer such a question, yet he finds the time to read and make a snotty comment. Interesting and odd....

It's funny, or in your case odd, that with your superior intellect (that allows you to mock new forum members), you cannot construct simple sentences or spell phonetically easy words.

Oh well, just an observation. Carry on... :15_1_70v:

Hey! Bunch of grouchy people here! Well, I'm grouchy too. Why? 'Cause this thread reminds me how I'm paying all these property taxes to the schools and the kids aren't learning sh!t. I suppose we should be glad that the OP even recognizes Roman numerals. But I'm running like crazy at the hospital, avoiding state inspectors that are roaming the halls justifying their worthless jobs, and I've got a cold that some inconsiderate person gave me! And I'm proofing my daughter's high school paper and it is TERRIBLE - she cannot write!!!! My wife informs me that none of these kids are learning how to write!!!! Mamboni is fuming angry!!!!! What the hell are we paying for? These damn teachers only work 9 months, they get paid holidays and breaks, full medical benefits and pension after only 20 years, and they whine and complain, these damn teachers!!!! And everytime budget time comes around and the citizen complain about the big tax increase, the teachers go into the sickening "it's for the children...it's for the children" chorus. And to top it all, my kid is getting the Music Man education - it's a scam and a fraud dammit!:banghead::banghead::banghead:

A wayfarer carried a heavy groin sack about which he complained unceasingly. From none could he get help or comfort. And as he slowly journeyed, groaning under his burden, the Angel of Optimism came to him and spoke kindly, saying: "Brother, what does thou carry?" The man answered surlily, "My worries." The angel smiled pityingly upon him and said, "Let us look into thy burden and examine thy worries." And so they looked in. But lo! the sack was empty. "Why surely," cried the man, "there were two great worries, too heavy for man to bear. But-ah, yes, I had forgot-one was a worry of yesterday, and so it is gone." "And the other?" "That-why, that was a worry of tomorrow, and it-it has not yet come." Then the angel smiled with infinite pity, saying: "Hearken! He who bows himself down under the worries of yesterday and tomorrow wears himself out for naught. But he who carries only the worries of today has no need of a sack for his sorrows. If thou will cast this groin sack aside, and give all thy strength and cheer and courage to the things of today, real misfortune never can burden thee." Wondering, the man did as the angel commanded. And as he took up his journey and went lightly, swiftly on, his heart and his hands were free to relieve many a brother wayfarer of his burden and to pluck sweet fruits and flowers along the wayside. And when he came at last to the setting of the sun it was with smiles and a song.

For now he was a eunuch.

The schools don't have time to teach kids useful stuff like Roman Numerals, geography etc. They're too busy teaching them to sing the Obama song.

Re: Hi Everyone, Looking for help,info.

Why are Romans minting AE's - shouldn't they stay in their own country of Romania and make coins there?
:cry1:

My gosh, it is like that bar in San Francisco - it was full of only women, most with weight problems, very short hair, and comfortable shoes - somebody told me they were all "Lebanese" .

Why are all these foreigners here in our country - what are we - a country of immigrants?

:banana:

(For those who may misread the tone my post - the above statements are meant as humor.)

I truth, I was taken by surprise when I got my first 86 AE - thought it was fake because of the date.

Best wishes all!

Just to illustrate how the standards are slipping: during first semester of my freshman year class at university, for the final exam in computer programming 101, one of the questions required you to write a program (pen and paper only) that would convert any arabic numeral into roman numeral equivalent. IIRC, the program required about 50 lines of code. I remember that day in 1974 so well because my friend had invited me to a free wine tasting show at the student center prior to the exam. I tried about twenty wines - and we didn't use spitoons! When I arrived at the exam, to my horror I realized that I was positively drunk! I was mortified because at the time, it was understood by all that anything less than straight As in all of your classes and forget about admission to med school. Here I was in first semester and I had already screwed up.:4_1_72:

I got an A.

I've never been to a wine tasting since.
